NAVEDTRA Military Requirements for Petty Officer First Class (14145) Practice Test

The primary duty to your country if captured is to resist the enemy by all possible means. This principle is rooted in military ethics and the responsibilities that service members have to uphold national interests and the values they serve. Engaging in resistance can involve various tactics, which could range from evasion and escape to clandestine actions or subversion while maintaining adherence to the laws of war.

Resisting the enemy helps to undermine their efforts and morale, and it protects sensitive information that could be used against your country. This duty emphasizes the importance of perseverance and courage, demonstrating that even in captivity, a service member can still contribute to their mission and country’s interests.

The other options stray from this core principle. Assisting the enemy, providing information willingly, or merely waiting for rescue do not align with the responsibilities expected from a captured service member. Instead, these actions may compromise national security and the safety of fellow service members. Thus, focusing on resistance reflects a commitment to the principles of military conduct and the obligation to fight for one’s country, even in challenging circumstances.
